River City FC teams had an impressive showing at the 2023 Ozarks Coca-Cola Dr. Pepper Cup, which took place from April 15-16. Four teams represented the club: the 2009 boys, 2010 boys-blue, 2011 girls, and 2012 girls. Each team faced tough competition, but some came out on top while others fell short.
The 2012 girls were looking to defend their championship from the previous year, and they succeeded. They had a dominant showing, beating Sporting Springfield and Southwest Missouri Rush both 3-1 on Saturday. On Sunday, they faced their final group game against FC Arkansas and won 2-1. The girls then faced FC Arkansas again in the final Sunday afternoon, which resulted in a thrilling 3-3 tie in regulation time. However, the team remained resilient and won 4-1 in the shootout, securing their championship for the second year in a row.
The 2009 boys were finalists for the second year in a row, a remarkable accomplishment in and of itself. They had a strong showing on Saturday, beating United Soccer Academy 2-1 and Boonville Soccer Academy 9-0. On Sunday morning, they continued their winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Wichita United FC in the semi-final. Unfortunately, they were unable to secure the championship, losing to Arkansas Rising SC 2-0 in the final Sunday afternoon.
The 2010 boys-blue team got off to a strong start on Saturday morning with a 4-1 win over Legends SC. However, they suffered a setback in the afternoon with a 4-0 loss to Impact City FC. On Sunday morning, they played to a scoreless draw with Legends SC NWA.
The 2011 girls, unfortunately, had a tough time in the tournament, dropping all three of their games against tough opponents in Alliance FC, Legends SC, and Missouri Rush. Although they did not come out on top, they gained valuable experience that will help them in their future matches.
Overall, the River City FC teams had a strong showing at the 2023 Ozarks Coca-Cola Dr. Pepper Cup. The 2009 boys and 2012 girls were notable standouts, with the boys securing a second consecutive finalist position and the girls successfully defending their championship. Congratulations to all the teams for their hard work and dedication in representing River City FC at this in Springfield.
